What Is a Victim Impact Panel?

roadwise dui court approved dui program nevada

A Victim Impact Panel (VIP) is a court-required educational session in which individuals convicted of DUI hear directly from victims and survivors of drunk driving incidents. This is not a lecture or a traditional class. It is a first-person experience designed to create a genuine understanding of the human consequences of impaired driving.

The Victim Impact Panel is a mandatory requirement for many DUI cases in Nevada. Courts order it as part of the sentencing process to ensure that those convicted confront the real-world impact of their actions. It is one of the most powerful and lasting components of any DUI education program.

What Happens During the Session?

The 90-minute session is conducted by a certified facilitator. Participants hear from victims of drunk driving crashes and others whose lives have been affected by impaired driving. The session is structured to be honest, direct, and impactful. There are no written tests and no coursework. You are present, you listen, and you receive your certificate upon completion.

  • Certified facilitator leads the full 90-minute session
  • Victim and survivor testimonials shared in a respectful, structured setting
  • Discussion of the legal, emotional, and financial consequences of DUI
  • Reflection on personal responsibility and the impact of choices
  • Certificate issued upon completion of the full session

Online vs. In-Person — What Is the Difference?

Both formats deliver the same court-accepted Victim Impact Panel content and result in the same certificate of completion. The difference is convenience and delivery format.
