What Is the 12-Hour Level 1 DUI Course?

roadwise dui enroll online dui course nevada

The 12-Hour Level 1 DUI Course is Nevada's state-required educational program for individuals convicted of a first-offense DUI. This course was updated from the legacy 8-hour format to meet current Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles and court requirements. Roadwise DUI delivers this course entirely live via scheduled Zoom sessions, taught by a certified instructor.

This is not a self-paced or pre-recorded course. Every session is live, interactive, and court-compliant. Attendance is tracked throughout via Zoom polling for full compliance documentation.

What You Will Learn

The 12-Hour Level 1 course covers the following curriculum as required by the State of Nevada:

  • The legal definition of DUI and Nevada DUI statutes
  • Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) and how alcohol affects the body and mind
  • The consequences of DUI: legal, financial, personal, and professional
  • Nevada's implied consent law and your rights and responsibilities as a driver
  • The impact of DUI on victims, families, and the community
  • Substance use and dependency awareness
  • Strategies for responsible decision-making and relapse prevention
  • Resources and support services available in Nevada

How the Course Works

The Roadwise DUI 12-Hour Level 1 DUI course is delivered synchronously via scheduled live Zoom sessions in full compliance with Nevada Regulation R084-22, adopted February 27, 2024. Real-time instruction by a licensed instructor. No self-paced modules. No pre-recorded content. Court-compliant from start to finish.

Your course is taught live by Kaumada Dalugoda, a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CDAC) licensed in the State of Nevada. Kaumada brings professional clinical expertise to every session, delivering the Change Companies Interactive Journaling curriculum in full compliance with Nevada Regulation R084-22 and Nevada DMV instructor licensing requirements.

Roadwise DUI delivers its course using Change Companies Interactive Journaling, one of only two curricula currently approved by the Nevada DMV under Regulation R084-22.

Course Rules and Requirements

Session Schedule and Limits

Sessions are held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Per Nevada Regulation R084-22, sessions are a maximum of 4 hours each and no more than one session may be attended per day. Each hour of instruction contains a minimum of 50 minutes of active course content.

21-Day Completion Requirement

The 12-Hour Level 1 DUI course must be completed within 21 consecutive days of your first session date. This is a requirement of Nevada Regulation R084-22 and cannot be extended. Students who do not complete all required sessions within 21 consecutive days must re-enroll and pay the full course fee again.

Make-Up Session Policy

Under Nevada Regulation R084-22, students who miss a session must be reassigned to a subsequent session to complete the required 12 hours. The full course must be completed within 21 consecutive days of your first session date.

  • First missed session with a minimum of 4 hours advance notice: free reassignment to the equivalent session the following week.
  • Second missed session: a $25 reassignment fee applies.
  • Third missed session or no-notice absence: student must re-enroll and pay the full course fee.

Missed sessions without advance notice may be reported to the referring court.

Attendance and Conduct Rules

Students may not arrive late to or leave early from any session except during designated rest periods. Any student who exhibits disruptive behavior may be removed from the session by the instructor and will not receive credit for that session. Any student who, in the instructor's judgment, appears impaired during a session will be excluded without credit. Excluded sessions must be made up within the 21-day completion window. These rules are established under NAC 483.786 and apply to all enrolled students without exception.

The following rules apply to all students enrolled in the 12-Hour Level 1 DUI Course. These requirements exist to maintain court compliance and ensure the integrity of your certificate. Failure to follow these rules may result in removal from the session and forfeiture of your enrollment fee.

Attendance and Participation
  • You must attend the full 12-hour session without early departure. Partial attendance does not satisfy the court requirement.
  • Your camera must remain on and your face clearly visible throughout the entire session. Turning off your camera may result in removal.
  • You must respond to all attendance polling questions promptly when they appear on screen. Missed polls affect your compliance record.
  • Active participation is required. You must be visibly present and engaged, not just connected.
  • You may not attend the session from a moving vehicle or any unsafe environment.
Identity Verification
  • You must upload a valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport) before your session date.
  • Your physical photo ID must be presented to the instructor at the start of your session for live verification before admission.
  • Your Zoom display name must match the name on your enrollment and photo ID. Mismatches will result in delayed or denied admission.
  • Digital photos or screenshots of your ID are not accepted. The original physical document must be shown on camera.
Technical Requirements
  • You must have a device with a functioning camera, microphone, and stable internet connection.
  • The free Zoom app must be installed and updated before your session. Visit spectralvision.media/zoom for setup instructions.
  • Test your audio and video at zoom.us/test at least 15 minutes before your session begins.
  • You are responsible for your own internet connection. Disconnection due to technical issues does not pause or extend the session.
  • If you are disconnected, rejoin immediately using your invite link. Extended absences due to repeated disconnection may affect your attendance record.
Conduct and Integrity
  • You must complete the course independently. You may not have another person attend or assist you during the session.
  • You will be required to swear under oath during your notary appointment that you completed the course independently and personally.
  • Recording the session in any form is strictly prohibited.
  • Disruptive behavior, inappropriate language, or conduct that interferes with other students will result in immediate removal from the session.
  • You may not be under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance during the course session.
Notarization
  • Notarization is mandatory. Your certificate cannot be issued until your notary appointment is complete.
  • You must complete your notary Zoom appointment within one week of your course session.
  • Your pre-filled notary document (name, county, state) will be sent to you after course completion. Do not alter any pre-filled fields.
  • Failure to complete notarization within the one-week window may require re-enrollment. Contact us immediately if you have a scheduling conflict.
IMPORTANT NOTICE

Roadwise DUI reserves the right to remove any student from a session for violation of the rules above. Enrollment fees are non-refundable once a session has begun. Students removed for rule violations must re-enroll and pay the full course fee again.
